Welcome to Bonanza: Scenery of the Ponderosa!

Saddleback Butte State Park
Antelope Valley, California

The desert park is adjacent to Lake Los Angeles. The nearest town is the desert community of Lancaster. Numerous movies and TV series have been filmed at the region over the years. The butte is situated 3,000 feet above the desert floor and offers breathtaking views of the Antelope Valley and Mojave Desert. The San Gabriel and San Bernadino Mountains can be seen from the southern and western views atop the butte.

The northern and eastern views offer glimpses of the Tehachapi Mountains. The nearest peak that can be seen is Soledad Mountain, which rises above the sleepy desert town of Mojave. The only episode of "Bonanza" filmed at Saddleback Butte was "The Conquistadores". The majority of the outdoor shoot was filmed in August of 1967.

DIRECTIONS: To drive here, take the I-5 North to the 14 Freeway, The Antelope Valley Freeway, and continue east, until you arrive in Lancaster.  Exit the freeway on Avenue J and proceed east on Avenue J until you reach 170th Street, and make a right.
