Dan Blocker (Hoss) selected Chub, the large, dark brown, half-thoroughbred, half-quarterhorse that stood 15.3 hands high.  Finding a suitable horse was a problem because of Dan's weight.  Chub tips the scales at 1,250 pounds and has a distinctive white marking down his face.
