The episode charts below indicate which episodes NBC selected for
syndication in 1973, after Bonanza's cancellation. Based on the first six
years, which established the series, and later portions, based on
ratings, character development, and popularity, a total of 260 episodes. |
Bonanza: The Classic 260 |
The following chart denotes the number of episodes NBC selected for
syndication, beginning the fall of 1973. A total of 260 were selected for
nationwide viewing on independent television stations, enough to repeat
in one year. However, programming directors of many stations were and
still are paticular, therefore in many cases, they would refuse to air
certain episodes that were not based on all four characters. On the other
hand, many stations would acquire all 260 with no problem. A classic
example is season ten's "Salute To Yesterday" and "My Friend, My
Enemy", two fine, outstanding episodes with David Canary as Candy, with the
Cartwights. Many stations would not pick them up, where others
would. Ironically, PAX-TV refused to air these two classics, in exchange
for two episodes from the eighth and ninth seasons that are still dubbed
"Lost Episodes". They truly are lost, in terms of being out of
circulation. The table below denotes the total amount of episodes in
seasons one through six, and the portions from eight through eleven, in
the Classic 260 syndication package. The rerun figures
state the episodes that NBC reran and the
episodes they chose not to rerun, during
Bonanza first-run broadcasting history. |
